What a bother!

I closed my old blog because I had problems with p*rn sites linking to it.  When I started this one, I was not going to share any family photos to avoid that problem.  But my grands are just so cute and I posted more pictures than I should of.
So,  I have going through all my posts and deleting any pictures that I think could possibly interest people with bad motives.

I love blogging because it allows me to connect with other homemakers that are doing the same kinds of things I am doing. I don't want to quit but I've got to be more careful.

Anyone have any advice about avoiding visits from unwanted sites?

  1. hmmm...that's awful. But could you explain how you know about those sites looking into you blog? I post pics of my kids all the time but I guess I wouldn't know if I had a problem of not. I do have a sitemeter.

  2. Betsy, go to design and then stats, look at the sites that visit you. You will recognize the names of your friends blogs but if you ones with strange names, you might want to see tif they are good or bad. The one I am getting unwanted visits from is, and I don't want to spell it out and get search hits for it, starts with film in the name.

    1. Yes, I have that one! But I agree with Debbie...they are linking to have people to go their site..not have people come look at your blog. You don't give your grands names or addresses, so it seems safe to me, but you need to feel comfortable...I get that.

  3. Rhonda, My feeling is that they are just tricking people into going to their sites by doing that. When I see those bad or unfamilar sites in my stats, I ignore them and do not click on them. They disappeared from my stats eventually.

I also would love to show pictures of my GS, but I decided I couldn't any more, just in case. I only show him from the back or from a distance so no one can see his face. I really hate that, but my dd and dsil, wouldn't want me to put his pictures out there on the internet anyway. Its too bad because he is so darn cute and I can't share it!

  5. Hi, Rhonda!

It was so good to talk with you on the phone Friday even if it was for just a few minutes. We loved the warm Oklahoma temperatures and came home to 25 degrees and 8 inches of snow.

I looked into this over a year ago in the Blogger forums because I noticed some odd links "linking" to my blog. One of the knowledgeable fellow bloggers said these sites have a crawler to "crawl" the internet so they will show up on the owner's stats. They are not linking to our blogs, but when you click on the link, it pushes up their stats so they will move up the line to be found easier. He also said, to ignore them and not to click on them and they will go away.

It's been about 3 months now since I've seen them popping back up. They will eventually stop and then it starts back up. Just ignore them.

  7. You could make your blog private and simply invite those to it that you know and who visit regularly now. I hate problems like that, too, it makes me mad to think that those dummies can cause us problems. I don't put up my daughter's children's photos, she asked me not to a year or more ago.

  8. This makes me sick to my stomach. I wish I could add something that was helpful.
I partially conceal my children's faces; I'll have to stay vigilant. I want to be able to keep a sort of family journal...now this really puts a damper on things.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Rhonda.

  9. I don't have any advice as I don't post anything too personal on my blog for that many other reasons. I would just say don't post any photos that show the grandkids' faces if it makes you feel more comfortable.

  10. I quit posting family pics quite some time ago because of this. It's sad that there are people who ruin things for others.

I've been in a blogging slump lately but have been getting lots of spring cleaning done and even painted one of the bathrooms. I'll try to get some pics and post soon.
